Best time to visit Mauritius

Mauritius is a year-round destination — there is no bad month, only different moods. Here's how the seasons shape your trip, and when to come for the activities you care about.

The two seasons

Summer — November to April

25–33°C

  • Hot, humid and lush — the sea is at its warmest, around 27–28°C.
  • Best months for diving and snorkelling, with calmer seas and better visibility.
  • January to March is cyclone season: most days are fine, but keep plans flexible and follow local advisories.
  • December and the Easter holidays are the busiest and priciest weeks — book boats and tours early.

Winter — May to October

17–25°C

  • Drier, cooler and breezier — many travellers find these the most comfortable months of the year.
  • Trade winds pick up on the east and south coasts, making it prime season for kitesurfing.
  • Best time for hiking: cooler days suit Le Morne Brabant, Black River Gorges and the central plateau.
  • Whale watching season runs roughly July to November off the west coast.
